Beatrice Chebet has made history by winning the women’s 10,000m final and securing her second gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Kenyan runner clocked 30:43.25 to triumph in the race, finishing ahead of Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands and Italy’s Nadia Battocletti.
Chebet’s victory marks a historic achievement as she becomes the first Kenyan woman to win a gold medal in the 10,000m event. Her win also adds Kenya’s second gold medal at the Paris Games. Prior to this, Naftali Temu was the only Kenyan to win a gold in the 10,000m at the Olympics.

Chebet, the world record holder for the distance, successfully outpaced Italy’s Nadia Battocletti to become the first Kenyan athlete to win two gold medals in the same Olympic Games.
Hassan earned her second medal in Paris, finishing third with a time of 30:44.12. Kenyan runners Margaret Chelimo and Lilian Kasait placed fourth and fifth, respectively, while Tsegay finished sixth in 30:45.21, according to Olympics.com.
Chebet’s remarkable performance caps off a series of historic achievements on the track and road, solidifying her status as a trailblazing athlete.
