The Legend Returns: Kipchoge Aims to Make Boston Marathon History
Can Eliud Kipchoge make history again in the 2023 Boston Marathon? No human is limited.
Eliud Kipchoge, considered by many the greatest marathoner of all time, is set to take on the historic Boston Marathon in his quest for an unprecedented sweep of all six major marathons in the world.
This will be his fifth major marathon win, having already won in London four times, Berlin three times (including two world records), Chicago, and Tokyo.
What Makes the Boston Marathon So Special?
Not only is the Boston Marathon the oldest marathon in the world but it’s also run without pacemakers, which makes it even more challenging. The course is mostly made up of hilly terrain, making it a true test of endurance for all participants.
Kipchoge is ready to face the competition head-on, with defending champion Evans Chebet and 2021 Chicago EliMarathon winner Benson Kipruto among the top contenders. The Ethiopian contingent will be led by two-time Boston champion Lelisa Desisa and 2020 London Marathon champion Shura Kitata.
The race is set to start at 9:37 am ET, which is 4:37 pm East African Time. Fans in Kenya can catch the race on the SuperSport Athletics channels, while the Boston Marathon website will provide live results and leaderboards.
Kipchoge’s incredible feat at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge proved that he is capable of achieving the seemingly impossible. While the Boston Marathon’s hilly terrain may present a challenge, there’s no doubt that Kipchoge will give it his all in an attempt to break the course record of 2:03:02 set by Geffrey Mutai. As Kipchoge famously said, ‘No human is limited,’ and the world will be eagerly watching to see what he can accomplish on race day
