Matano Takes Legal Action Against Aussems Over Defamatory Tweet
Tusker FC Coach Robert Matano has been left outraged by a tweet made by AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems, which insinuated that Matano practices black magic.
Tusker FC Coach Robert Matano has initiated legal action against AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems, demanding an apology for a defamatory statement made on Twitter.
Matano’s legal representatives sent a demand letter to Aussems, expressing that the statement has caused damage to Matano’s reputation as a highly respected coach in Kenya and East Africa.
The incident occurred after the match between AFC Leopards and Tusker FC on April 9th, 2023, where according to the demand letter, Aussems published a tweet insinuating that Matano lacks knowledge of football and practices black magic.
Unfortunately we have been punished at the last minute due to a lack of aggressiveness ! Congrats to the players of Tusker . Of course l won't talk about an old coach with no international experience who is more a djudju man than a tactician… one could learn ! pic.twitter.com/pWcEUPHHp0

The statement was deemed defamatory and has caused harm both professionally and personally to Matano, who has won four Kenyan Premier League titles with Tusker FC and Sofapaka FC, coached in the Africa Champions League and CAF Competitions, and has been voted the best coach in Kenya on two occasions.
Matano’s legal representatives demanded an unconditional apology from Aussems within three days, along with the request for the apology to be published on his Twitter page.
If the apology is not received within the stipulated time, legal proceedings may be instituted for the recovery of compensation. The legal representatives also expect to receive a written proposal on the damages to be paid by Aussems within seven days of the receipt of the demand letter.
