There was drama at the ‘Kenya Kwanza’ coalition rally in Nairobi on Tuesday after Nairobi gubernatorial aspirants clashed publicly.
Super Senator Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi) and former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, exchanged words, and appeared to be fighting for the microphone at Nairobi’s City Park.
The drama ensued after Sakaja’s supporters reportedly booed Bishop Wanjiru, who is looking to vie for the position on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket. Wanjiru accused Sakja of inciting some of his followers to heckle her, as she made her pitch to city residents.
“I deserve respect, we are both leaders here in Nairobi,” Wanjiru was quoted as saying during the scuffle.
Sakaja, on the other hand, urged the crowd to give every candidate a chance to sell their agenda.
“Everyone has the right to be heard, please stop this,” Senator Sakaja was quoted as saying by Citizen Digital.
The rally comes after the recent alliances between the UDA faction led by Deputy President William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi ANC, and Ford-Kenya led by Moses Wetang’ula.
Sakaja and Wanjiru will battle it out with other aspirants who have declared interest in the position. They include current governor Anne Kananu, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, Makadara MP George Aladwa, former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, businessman Agnes Kagure, and Kenyan Chamber of Commerce president Richard Ngatia.
