Governor Sakaja to Celebrate 38th Birthday by Planting 3,800 Trees
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will celebrate his 38th birthday on Thursday by planting 3,800 tree seedlings in the city.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will celebrate his 38th birthday on Thursday by planting 3,800 tree seedlings in the city. He will commence the planting by placing a few seedlings in Central Park, which has been under renovation for 15 months and is now reopening.
The National Youth Service will aid in conducting the exercise in several wards throughout the county.
Sakaja’s boss President William Ruto, marked his birthday last year by planting trees as part of his plan to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
To celebrate his 56th birthday, he planted 56 trees, and other counties joined in with similar events resulting in 560,000 trees being planted. Since taking office in August 2022, Sakaja has been resolute in his commitment to a proper tree-planting effort involving both the county and private sector to restore Nairobi’s green status.
The initiative aims to employ at least 11,000 young people in Nairobi to participate in the tree-planting program.
During last year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations, President Ruto announced that his administration will collaborate with Nairobi County government to initiate the tree-planting initiative at the start of 2023. Senator Sakaja then stated that this tree-planting effort will provide opportunities for the youth.
According to him, the initiative will replace the discontinued Kazi Mtaani program and deter youth from engaging in criminal activities. With support from the Kenya Forest Services (KFS) and the National Government, the program will engage young participants in four-day workweeks for which they will receive a weekly salary of Sh2,400.
